Proper Care for Daffodils

Daffodils can brighten any room in your home!  That being the case, why not make sure you take proper care of your Daffodils?  To provide sufficient care for Daffodils, you will need to know a few things about this unique bloom; in learning what kind of care Daffodils require, you will be able to make certain that they are cared for properly!

The very first thing you need to know in order to provide sufficient care for Daffodils is that you will need to keep them away from other blooms for at least 24 hours.  Daffodils produce a sap that is poisonous to other blooms, and if you should arrange them with other flowers immediately upon receiving them, you are apt to kill off the entire arrangement!  Thus, proper care for Daffodils requires that you arrange them in a separate container from other blooms, at least until the sap has had sufficient time to dissipate.

As with all flowers, in order to provide care for Daffodils, you need to have a good sized vase to place them in.  Once you have located a container, you will need to fill it with warm water and add the flower food according to the directions provided on the back of the package.  It is imperative that you use warm water when filling the vase, as cold water contains a higher level of oxygen.  Oxygen creates bubbles in the water and bubbles can obstruct the stems.  Thus, to maintain adequate care for Daffodils and all blooms, be sure to use warm water.

Like all other cut flower arrangements, proper care for Daffodils requires that you cut the stems at an angle so that they can receive adequate nutrients provided from the food and water mix.  Additionally, the stems should be trimmed again, every couple of days so that your Daffodils can maintain a steady level of both water and nutrients.  Finally, if you are using foam inside the vase or container you have selected, be sure to check the water level at a minimum of once a day.

To maintain proper care of Daffodils, you need to be aware of the environment you are placing your blooms in.  For example, if the air is overly dry, you may want to check the water level of the flowers more often.  Due to the fact that water evaporates quickly in a dry atmosphere, you want to ensure adequate care for Daffodils by maintaining a good level of water in the vase or container.

In terms of proper care for Daffodils, you will want to be sure that you keep your blooms in a cool area, away from any heat generating objects, windows, or from any source of direct sunlight.  Overexposure to warmth can quickly wilt your blooms and all your efforts to maintain the longevity of your flowers will prove futile.  Thus, when attempting to provide adequate care for Daffodils, be sure to implement every safety measure you can; the joy and beauty your flowers will add to your home with prove to be well worth all of your efforts!
